We missed the spring; it has been such a cold winter this year, especially last week. The school was off for 3 days due to non stop snowing and ice. Hopefully we will see the spring and sun soon. It is March, yay! :)

To get into spring mood, I made a house keychain and sharing the pattern with you on the 9th day of March Meet The Maker challenge. If you want to see my other shares for the challenge, you can check my instagram or facebook

Mushroom Pattern by Principe Del Crochet

I saw this amazing mushroom on Principe Del Crochet`s blog and fell in love with it. In fact, it was hard to choose from the patterns on the blog but the mushroom reminded me my friend so I made it first. It is such a fun and easy project that you finish within an hour. I also asked permission to translate the pattern into English so that everyone might try making it. You can find the original of the pattern here. If you make it please use hashtag #setasenelcamino, tag me and Principe Del Crochet on Instagram.

Menny Swaddle doll

Baby is on the way, so it is time to celebrate! Baby showers are fun to use the opportunity to find something unique for for the mom-to-be, future dad and the baby. There are endless options for baby shower gifts, you can buy or make it yourself. You can never go wrong with a handmade gift! :)

I have pregnant friends and they asked me to make some gift favors for their baby showers. I wanted to make something new and unique. After a few days of dreaming, thinking; watching my two daughters playing and being inspired by them; I made these swaddle dolls. I really love how they turned out. They can be used as key rings, fridge magnet, bag charms etc..

If you want to make your own baby shower favors, you can find the pattern here or if you want me to make them for you, please contact me :)

Crochet Bookmark Pattern

I love small projects which are stash busting and easy to make with in a few hours, sometimes minutes. Last month on our way to grocery shopping I saw big paper clips and they were jumping up and down, singing "buy me, buy me, you will make amazing stuff with me". :) I couldn`t resist their cute song and before my husband noticed, they were in the shopping basket hiding under some lemons.

Sometimes I need inspiration to start the projects I want to make. I need to find the right flower / leaf pattern or the right stitch to start with. It usually takes time until it clicks and after that comes the production process.
The paper clips were always in front of my eyes and every idea came to my mind didnt seem very good. I wanted to start with a flower bookmark but none of the flower patterns were good for me at that time. I also wanted it to be unique, not just random bookmark. Then one day.. YAY!! I found it and started making tiny dresses and sewing them on the paper clips. I love it! If you want to make your own bookmark, here is the pattern for it. If you want to buy from me, you can find them on my shop.

Bunny Blankie Pattern

There are so many things in my mind about my etsy shop, business, how to do promotion, products I need to make and so on.. I was drown with the ideas and my long long to do lists. By chance I found out "rich mum business" web site by Ranae and after watching her webinars, youtube videos I realized the mistakes I am making over and over.. This time I am getting serious about the business and moving on, one bite at a time :) I still have loads of things to do and sometimes 24 hours is not enough for me, especially with two kids :)

I decided to use instagram more active as a promotion for my shop and my products. I started posting more often and got new followers. I also found out a new company called Three Bears Yarn, they were looking for crochet testers to test the patterns. Yay! I contacted them by email. I tested a blanket pattern made by Denise Potter. I really liked the cotton yarn they sent me. They are soft and easy to crochet. There were a few balls left from the blanket and David let me keep them for myself. They turned into a bunny blankie and I will share the pattern with you :)

Crochet Animal Pencil Toppers

I bought some crayons for Little M when she was 14 or 15 months old. I waited a few days before I gave to her thinking about some potential dangers like chewing the crayons or drawing on the wall. Then I gave up thinking and decided to let her play with them. She really enjoyed and still enjoys drawing.
I also bought her some coloring books, but instead of coloring the images she prefers drawing her own picture on white areas. She can draw a head with eyes mouth and sometimes big ears calling them grandma or grandpa.
Last week, when she was drawing next to me, telling me about her picture(!),  an idea came to my mind: I should make some animal pencil toppers for her.
I ran to my leftover yarn box and found the colors I wanted, then started to make a bear. I tried a few times to get the exact size, head of bear wasn`t big enough but Little M still liked it and played with the head till I finished the frog. Then I made a bunny. Little M was watching me and jumping on the sofa with excitement while the pieces were sewn to each other.
They are really easy and enjoyable. I wanted to share that joy and wrote the pattern for them. Pattern is now available on my shop or Ravelry.

Summer Flowers Shawl

This is a very easy and relaxing project that can be completed in a few hours with some basic crochet stitches. When you start making, it may seems it will take hours and hours to finish your shawl. As you continue, 2 flowers are decreased in each row so you won`t understand when you finished your shawl :)

Yarn and hook : You can use double knitting or any other light weight yarn with a suitable hook.  I prefer making this scarf with mercerized cotton yarn and 3.5 mm hook. To show better for the tutorial I used aran weight yarn with 4.00 mm hook.

Abbreviations :
  • ch : chain
  • dc : double crochet
  • sst : slip stitch

1 - ch6, work 2 dc in the first chain space, ch3, work 3 dc in the same chain space.

2 - (ch4 and turn. work 3 dc in 3 chain space, ch3, work 3 dc in the same space.) * Repeat * until it measures approx 50 inch (125cm) . This will be the length of the scarf. You can make longer or shorter.

First row of flowers :

1 - ch 14, sl st in the 7th chain.
2 - To make the first petal ch3, make 2 dc,ch3 and sl st in the chain ring.

3 - Make 4 petals more for the flower. ch 7 and sl st in the ch3 space on your border.

Repeat these 3 steps to the end, cut the yarn.

Second row of flowers :

  1. skip the first flower, sl st on the 3rd petal of 2nd flower.
  2. ch 14, sl st in the 7th ch.
  3. Make 5 petals for the flower, sl st on the 3rd petal of the next flower.
Continue making flowers until you have 1 flower left at the end of the row. Skip the last flower.

You will decrease 2 flowers on each rows to make a triangle scarf, repeat the rows until you finish the scarf.
You can iron the flowers on damp cloth but before ironing please check your yarn label.
If you have any questions with the pattern, I am happy to answer them.

You can purchase  the scarf from my shop, if you want me to make one for you please do not hesitate to contact me :)

Enjoy making it!
